In December 2005, Monroe County joined the other CREATE community affiliates in the mission of building local endowments. Throughout 2006-10, the local board of the South Monroe County Community Fund has focused on making their communities aware of the giving opportunities that the foundation provides. Since 2007, they have awarded grants totaling over $13,000 to organizations and programs such as: Aberdeen City Museum, Aberdeen Animal Shelter, Railroad Depot, Elkin Theater, Girl Scouts in both Aberdeen and Hamilton, Bukka White Blue Bluff Festival, multiple food pantries, and Aberdeen Citizen Preparedness. As they grow their community fund, they grow the amount of grants they can give in their communities.
