• Promoting regional unity and cooperation
  • Serving as an advocate for regional community and economic development
  • Providing an inclusive process for all of the communities to participate in addressing identified issues and opportunities
  • Conducting in-depth research throughout the 16-county region to identify county socioeconomic trends and public opinion that affect the state of the region. These findings are used to produce the annual State of the Region report and to set annual goals to measure our successes.

CREATE Foundation has a distinguished history of highly effective community engagement as the leading regional community development organization in Northeast Mississippi. Capitalizing on those strengths, in 1995 CREATE formed the Commission on the Future of Northeast Mississippi to foster collaboration among regional leaders to build and strengthen communities throughout the region. 

The purpose of the Commission:

1.  Assess the current and future needs and opportunities in Northeast Mississippi
2.  C
onvene regional leaders to recommend strategies and solutions to address these needs
     and opportunities
3.  Support high-impact opportunities that will make the greatest difference in the region

R E G I O N A L   G O A L S   A N D   O B J E C T I V E S

 OVERALL GOAL:              Improve regional per capita income from 66.69% of the
                                      national average in 2000 to 70% in 2010 and 75% by 2015.

 PRIMARY
 SUPPORTING GOAL:        Improve highest level of education attained by adults 25 years and                                               older in the region as follows:

  • Reduce the dropout rate, as measured by the Mississippi Department of Education, in the region’s public school districts to 10% by 2013.
  • Provide two years of tuition-free community college education for each high school graduate in the region by 2010.
  • Assure that by 2020 every pre-school child in the region will have access to early childhood programs with at least a two-star rating as established by the Mississippi Child Care Quality Step System.

 SUPPORTING GOALS:      Develop a mixed, diversified economy including:

                                      Complete the four-lane construction of all Vision 21 highways
                                      within our region that have been designated for immediate
