Scholarship Endowments

Scholarship endowments allow donors to establish scholarships for deserving students in Northeast Mississippi.  A scholarship fund may be designated for any level of education, a particular field of study, a specific insititition, or a specific county or area.  Click here to view a sample Scholarship Endowment Form.

Amory Rotary Foundation Scholarship Endowment

In 1995, Rotary leaders established this endowment, recognizing the administrative and financial management role that CREATE could play.   Most recently, students attending Birmingham Southern, ICC, MSU, NEMCC and Ole Miss received awards.
Dr. & Mrs. Walter Bourland Scholarship Endowment

Established in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Walther Bourland by their children to provide scholarships annually to residents of Lee County who have been accepted to medical school.
The Eva Ann Beasley Dorris Memorial Scholarship

To honor her love for life and passion for higher education the family and friends of Eva Ann Beasley Dorris established this endowment in order to provide scholarships to certain junior and senior students at Mississippi State University who have demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence and their future.

 

The Larry Brown Creative Arts Scholarship Endowment

Established by his wife in meory of Larry Brown, noted author from Lafayette County, the endowment provides annual awards to students at Lafayette High School who demonstrate talent in an area of the arts. 

The M. Glen and Lora H. Davidson Scholarship Endowment

Established by their three children in 2004 as a way to honor their parents, life-long educators and residents of Pontotoc County. Mr. Davidson served as a school administrator and as superintendent, while Mrs. Davidson was an english teacher and later a librarian. Both were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Pontotoc.
The endowment will provide financial assistance to graduating seniors from Pontotoc city and county schools
.

Russell Dorman Scholarship Endowment Fund

The Russell Vee Palmer Dorman Scholarship Fund was established by his sisters in memory of Russell and in honor of his parents, Jimmy and Pat Dorman, to help young men graduating from Tupelo High School who possess Russell’s unforgettable character and desire to succeed.  Last year a scholarship was awarded to a student attending MSU.

Dougherty Scholarship Endowment Fund

Pat and Velma Dougherty came to Tupelo in 1936 and quickly were recognized as tremendous community leaders.  In 1948 Pat was named the first Chairman of CDF.   George McLean later honored them by establishing the Dougherty Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support to college students who have demonstrated financial need.

The Pebbles East Aulds Scholarship Fund

To honor her memory, the family and friends of Pebbles East Auld established this fund, which will be awarded annually to a deserving recipient. 
Patricia "Robin" Dows Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the Alumni of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Mississippi's Camp Tik-A-Witha to provide support for scholarships to any girl who wants the opportunity to attend camp Tik-a-Witha.

Alliene Gibens Scholarship Endowment

The Alliene Gibens "Be a Hero" Scholarship honors Mrs. Gibens as the hero of her family, her former students and many others in the community. The scholarship was begun in 1994 as a Christmas gift from her three children and their spouses.  It is the hope of her children that the recipients will be driven by a generous spirit and a compassionate heart to become a hero in their community.  Students attending Belhaven College and MSU recently received support from the endowment.

Kim Green Educational Scholarship Endowment

To honor the memory of his wife who loved to teach, David Green established this scholarship fund for students from Corinth and Alcorn County schools who major in Education at a MS college or university.  Kim taught for 20 years in the Alcorn County School System, and obtained certification in 2001 under the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

M & F Bank – Jim and Nancy Ingram Endowment Fund

The Jim and Nancy Ingram Endowment was established by Merchants & Farmers bank as a way to honor Mr. Ingram for his years of dedicated service to the bank. 

Innovations in Education Scholarship Endowment

In 1989, the Innovations in Education Fund was established as a result of the City of Tupelo receiving a $100,000 grant from the Ford Foundation.  The endowment aims to enhance the quality of education in Tupelo Public Schools by funding several $1,000 awards in the Teachers of Distinction Recognition program.  

Frances Mallory Scholarship Fund

Grateful alumni of Calhoun City High School have established this scholarship in memory of Miss Frances Mallory, 1909 – 1994, who dedicated her life to the educational advancement of students in Calhoun City, Mississippi . She motivated hundreds of students to aspire to higher achievement.  Anyone wishing to make a contribution can access an online form here
The Beth McAuley Music Scholarship Endowment

Established to provide awards/scholarships to music students for further study and is awarded in accordance with qualifications and procedures determined by the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs auditions.

The Kayla Sue Mize Scholarship Endowment

To honor her passion for life and the performing arts, family and friends of Kayla Sue Mize established this endowment, its primary purpose being to award scholarships to futher the education of high school seniors who have deomonstrated excellence in performace, on-stage and off.

Monroe Scholarship Endowment

Bob and Marilyn Monroe were both well-loved, long-time teachers at Tupelo High School.   When Marilyn passed away, student leaders launched a fundraising effort to establish two permanent endowments in honor of Bob and in memory of Marilyn.   The Monroe Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to students from Tupelo High School who enter the field of education.  An Ole Miss student received the latest award from this fund.

Taylor Moore Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

To honor the memory of their son, Taylor, Bobby and Minerva Moore of New Albany established this scholarship fund in December, 2003. The scholarship will be awarded annually to help further the education of a graduate of New Albany High School.

The Lee Weston Reed Scholarship Fund

To honor his love of life and others, family and friends of Weston established this scholarship to award financial assistance to individuals of the Tupelo Soccer Program who exhibit good character, sportsmanship and love for the game. The scholarship will be awarded annually.

The Winifred and Mayfield Riley Travel Scholarship

Given in their memory by their children and their spouses, this scholarship is given to a junior or senior at Nettleton High School who have demonstrated leadership potential and significant curiosity about learning through travel to foreign countries and who has a minimum 2.75 GPA.


The B.L. and Dot Rieves Scholarship Endowment Fund

Established by their children as a Christmas gift, the Mr. & Mrs. B.L. Rieves Scholarship Fund was permanently endowed in 2005.  The fund provides scholarships to “B average” students who may not be eligible for other scholarship funding.

George H. Schultz Scholarship Endowment

The George H. Schultz Endowment Fund was established by Mr. Schultz’s daughter, Dora Crudele, in memory of her father who was the highly regarded, long-time director of the Tupelo High School Band.  This scholarship is awarded to a graduating Tupelo High School band member who majors in music education, and last year went to a student attending USM.

Stubbs Scholarship Endowment Fund

The Frank B. Stubbs Scholarship Fund was established by the Baldwyn native, who spent most of his life in New York City, and is awarded to graduates of Baldwyn High School.  Most recently, students attending NEMCC, Ole Miss, MSU and ICC received awards.

John N. Todd Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established to honor John's life by creating a college scholarship program for deserving children of Southern Motion employees. John was a wonderful father, husband, son and friend who was very much a part of the Southern Motion family.

Tupelo Luncheon Civitan Scholarship Endowment
 
Established in 2003, the Tupelo Civitan Endowment will provide scholarships to students from Tupelo and Lee County to help with college tuition.


The Clay Waycaster Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

Established by Mitch and Christy Waycaster to honor the memory of their son, Clay.  This endowment provides annual scholarship funding to a deserving Tupelo High School graduate. 

Owen B. Whitehurst Endowment Fund

This fund was established in 2002 by Mr. Whitehurst's family in his memory to help students from Alcorn County pursue their college degrees.  Fourteen scholarships have been awarded from this fund to date.

Whiteside Scholarship Endowment Fund

The Whiteside Scholarship was established to honor Jim T. Whiteside by encouraging qualified students from Lee and adjoining counties to enter the nursing profession or to achieve their graduate nursing degrees.

Valeria Morgan Whitfield Scholarship Endowment

Valeria Morgan Whitfield devoted her life to helping others. For community leader and CREATE donor Lewis Whitfield, the Scholarship Fund "serves as a way to establish a permanent fund to help other people in memory of my mother." The fund awards one $1,000 scholarship annually to a graduating Tupelo High female.   This year’s recipient attends MSU.


Field of Interest Endowments

Field of Interest Endowments allow families, organizations, or tohers to provide a secure, stable and permanent stream of income to support designated areas of interest.  Endowments provide funding today to worthwhile causes, while assuring donors that the principle will remain to support programs tomorrow and into the future.  Click here to view a sample Field of Interest Endowment Form.

Booth Family Endowment Fund

William T. Booth's children, George H. Booth, II and Mae B. Forbes, established the Booth Family Endowment Fund in 2001 in his memory. Earnings from the fund are used to support educational and arts needs and promote quality of life in Tupelo and Lee County.  This year the Booth family funded a Teacher of Distinction Award.

Byrne-Field Endowment Fund

The Byrne-Field Endowment Fund was established in 1986 by Fred M. and Katie Bush to honor the memory of Mrs. Bush’s parents, Matilda Catherine Byrne and Jennings Pemble Field.   The endowment provides annual merit awards to one eleventh or twelfth grade student from each of the public high schools in Lee County and Tupelo.  Mrs. Bush said, “We want to honor students who might go unrecognized for what they have attained in spite of difficult circumstances.”

CARE – First Presbyterian Church of Corinth Special Missions Fund

This fund provides financial support to the special mission projects of First Presbyterian Church in Corinth

CARE – Harry Lee Williams, Sr. Endowment Fund

The Harry Lee Williams, Sr. Endowment Fund was established in his memory by his children and provides support for the education needs and quality of life of Alcorn County.  Most recently, Corinth High School and NEMCC received support from the fund.

CARE – Kenneth and Nancy Ann  Williams Endowment Fund

The Kenneth and Nancy Ann Williams Endowment Fund was established by Nancy in honor of her husband, Kenneth.  Its purpose is to improve the quality of life in Corinth and Alcorn County by providing support to several community organizations and other projects of interest to the donors.

The Bernice Gambrell Endowment Fund

To recognize the twenty years of dedicated and committed service of Juanita Gambrell Floyd to CREATE Foundation, the Board of Directors established this endowment in honor of her mother, Bernice Gambrell Floyd in February 2005.  



The Frances Elkin Joyner Endowment Fund

Established by Mrs. Frances Elkin Joyner to provide future support to charities of her interest.

CREATE Unrestricted Endowment Fund

As the broadest option for charitable giving, this Unrestricted Endowment reaches out to all charitable organizations serving the community and provides funding to meet the community's most pressing needs.

Gardner Simmons Building Endowment

The Gardner Simmons Building Endowment will provide funds needed for the upkeep and maintenance of the home, as well as funds for possible future expansions.

Alice Little Endowment Fund

The Alice Little Endowment Fund was established through the will of Miss Alice I. Little, a long-time prominent and progressive leader in Tupelo. Miss Little wanted her real estate in the Park Hill area of Tupelo to be used for charitable purposes. Through a CREATE/Habitat Partnership, Miss Little's wishes are being carried out.

Monroe Education Endowment Fund

The Monroe Education Endowment Fund supports the Teachers of Distinction Awards at Tupelo High School.

Susan N. and Thomas J. McDonald Endowment

 

The Established in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary to provide support for the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra.




The Pirkle Library Endowment Fund

Established to honor the memory of Mr. Estus Pirkle by his wife, Ann and his son, Greg.  The fund will be used to fund religious education at religious schools. 


Rowland Joyner Learning Skills Endowment Fund

This fund provides support to worthy students who are financially unable to pay the tuition at the Learning Skills Center in order for the Learning Skills Center to carry out its roles and missions of the organization.

Reed Family Trust Endowment Fund

Over the years, the Reeds have committed financial resources, time, knowledge and expertise to the continuous building of Northeast Mississippi, and carry on this legacy with the Jack and Frances Reed Family Endowment Fund. “Frances and I believed this was the best way for succeeding generations to continue to support the community and make decisions appropriate to the time,” says Jack Reed, Sr. Most recently, a Teacher of Distinction award was funded by the endowment.
Harry and Ellen Walker Endowment Fund

Established in their honor to provide support to worthwhile projects that benefit the Tupelo area.

Whitfield Leadership Endowment Fund

Established by Henry Lewis Whitfield, the purpose of this fund is to provide support for activities, projects, programs and organizations that promote excellence in some phase of life in Tupelo, with primary consideration given to efforts to develop, improve or strengthen leadership in the community.

Youth Foundation Endowment Fund

The Northeast Mississippi Youth Foundation (NEMYF) was established in 2001 by CREATE in an effort to involve young people in community development and philanthropy. Eleventh and twelfth grade students from CREATE’s 16-county service area make up NEMYF. They have worked hard to grow the endowment to over $22,000. Last year, NEMYF awarded over $1,050 to agencies that help youth.




Marchbanks Family Trust Endowment Fund

Established by Mr. John B. Marchbanks, a native of Shannon. The endowment helps people who are trying to help themselves overcome their immediate problems, misfortunes, and handicaps to have a better life and become productive citizens. Additional funds are used to promote charitable giving and volunteerism by the use of matching funds.

The Caroline Bryan Harrell Education Endowment

To honor the dedication and support of his sister-in-law to public education, Mr. Kenny Dill and his wife Anna established this endowment in 2005. This endowment provides scholarships to students and teachers in the public education system.

The LQC Lamar House Endowment

Established as a “care” endowment to provide maintenance, upkeep, and future operation of the home of Mississippi’s only elected U.S. Supreme Court Justice and the first professor of law at the University of Mississippi, LQC Lamar. The fund secures that the property, in current restoration, will not fall into disrepair again.
